Welcome to St Pete Beach located directly on the Gulf of Mexico on the western edge of the Tampa Bay area.St Pete Beach is set on a six mile long key, which also includes the community of Pass-a-Grille which was the first established town on Florida's West Coast barrier islands and still retains its historic charm.
A historic landmark on St Pete Beach is the famous Don CeSar Beach Resort which was reopened in 1973 . Don CeSar was built in 1928 . The depression hit the hotel very hard and in the early 40's, the government purchased the hotel and turned it into a hospital and rehabilitation center and in 1944 it became one of the first hurricane shelters. In 1945 the Regional Office of Veterans Administration was moved into the Don. In 1969, facing 3 million dollars in renovation, the government left the facility and the County was ready to tear it down. Due to an active citizens group, Mr. William Bowman bought the building and renovated it.
